This morning I came across this blog post. I read it and John Cooper's post directly beneath it. I even took the McCain vs. Obama quiz. I am interested to see what you guys think about this post (but primarily what Cooper had to say...), and to see if you quized out with the candidate that you thought you would (because I didn't!).
cheers.

I find it intriguing, but is it realistic? I get that we are supposed to live our lives for God. I am well aware that in the big picture our actions matter more than most things.
My only problem with Cooper's post is this: What about all the behind the scenes stuff? What about the decisions that we don't make, but our president and his cabinet make for us? If new laws, amendments or acts come into play during a presidential term that legally strain our actions then what do we do? Obviously, this is worst case scenario here. This is assuming that somehow a president that the electoral chooses passes legislation forbidding us to do things that we have been doing (in God's name) prior to his term.
Now, if Cooper was saying to not forget that it does not end with voting then I would agree with him. Our president will not do everything for us. We must remember that our actions matter and that we must always be doing work in God's name!
My point being, it is up to us to choose the candidate that best suits our ideals. Imagine how hard it would be to do ministry if the elected president was not only an atheist but one who had a strong dislike for evangelicals. Imagine the kind of legislation that would passed under a cabinet like that.
Just a thought. I'm really not even that political.
well put, hebham. You bring up a point/issue that I had with Claiborne's book. As great, inspiring, and truthful as it is, at times I felt it was too idealistic and unpractical.
Now, hear me: I love Shane and fully support what he does (hence CO(-) ). But like you, hebham, I was still a little unsure as how to vote with his advice to "vote for Jesus." Of course we "vote for Jesus" in our everyday actions. But when it comes to politics (also like you) I am just not very political (and to be frank, I actually try to stay out/ignore them as much as possible because I get so tired of hearing what seems to be empty promises--then again, I suppose I am warranting for myself an "ignorant" label).
McCain vs. Obama--for me, the jury is still out. And this is so because I do feel it is important to not be politically ignorant (as backwards as that sounds put up against what I just said!)
Brian McLaren (hold your BOO's please) mentions some important thoughts to consider when thinking about who you'll vote for here: http://www.brianmclaren.net/archives/blog/why-im-voting-for-barack-obama-a-1.html
check it out. it might make you think a little.
